Jane Klarer Lackey works with translucent porcelain and Nerikomi, a Japanese technique involving the blending and layering of coloured clays. Primarily hand-built, her work often combines hand-built and wheel-thrown elements. The translucency of porcelain allows light to pass through the surface, revealing gradients of colour reminiscent of fog drifting through mountain valleys, fields, and rivers. Rather than depicting the landscape literally, Jane aims to evoke the feeling of being immersed in it. Alongside functional pieces designed for everyday use, she enjoys occasionally pushing beyond traditional boundaries of form and function.
