About The Piece

Stephen Plant is a potter based in Gardom Lake, British Columbia, just outside of Salmon Arm. His studio practice over the years has seen a deep commitment to glaze development and experimentation, resulting in a unique palette of surfaces and finishes that define his work. Working primarily with porcelaneous California clay and guided by meticulous digital kiln records, Stephen embraces the inherent unpredictability of the firing process. The resulting glaze effects are often striking and dynamic, beautifully complementing the intricate Celtic knot work that has become a signature of his pottery.

Many of his larger pieces feature an especially personal touch: a thin layer of wild clay slip, foraged from the land surrounding his home, applied to the base and carefully carved by hand. This subtle detail connects each piece to its local landscape, giving every work a distinctive sense of place.
