About The Piece

‘Dark Current’ was created by Hayley Stewart in collaboration with Whistler’s Kris Kupskay for their 2023 exhibition at the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre’s Public Art Gallery. This dark and moody ocean-inspired piece brings together the distinct artistic styles of both artists. Hayley Stewart’s expressive approach to colour and landscape meets Kupskay’s visual language, creating a dynamic interpretation of waves and the energy of the ocean.

Built through layers of acrylic and spray paint and finished with airbrush, the work has a depth and atmosphere that mirrors the shifting nature of water. The darker palette gives the piece a sense of mystery and movement, capturing the ocean in one of its more powerful and atmospheric moments.
