Vanessa St Yves
Revelstoke, B.C.

When Vanessa St. Yves first arrived in British Columbia, she was immediately captivated by the unique landscape. Her artwork reflects everyday life in the mountains. Time spent in the wilderness offers inspiration through the smallest details such as the shape of a simple rock, the color of a wildflower, or the texture of tree bark. In her studio, these impressions are transformed into paintings through color, light, shape, and contrast drawn from memory and experience.

While there is an abstract quality to her animal paintings, Vanessa always gives particular attention to the eyes to express emotion. Viewers often comment that the animals seem to be trying to speak through their gaze. Deeply inspired by her surroundings, she seeks to share these feelings with others, hoping that her work will evoke personal memories of nature and wildlife in those who experience it.
