“I found these two cedars on an afternoon snowshoe through the old growth. Looking up at them from below, I liked how the trunk and branches counter balanced the trees on the mountainside. This happy couple provides shelter for the little sapling representing the cycles of life.

As an artist, I find these paintings so stimulating to wrestle with. Many hours spent adding in layers of branches and leaves, strands of bark, simplifying, obliterating then settling in on the composition. I thrive in this ebb and flow dance of painting and breathing life into each original work of art.” – Melanie MacVoy
