About The Piece

‘Spike’ is a piece by Zuzana Riha created in 2024 based on the B.C. West coast black bear. In this life sized black bear sculpture, Riha has used repurposed mountain bike tires and old railway spikes – taking the inspiration of Revelstoke’s Railway heritage to heart for this piece. Through this alchemy of materials, Riha invokes a deep resonance between the human-made and the wild: the functional, discarded tool becomes an expression of a creature that roams free. Her stated mission, to “connect people with nature” and uphold the belief that “all beings are equal on this planet” finds visual form here in the bear, a symbol of the wilderness, reimagined through recycled materials.
