Sab Curtis
New Denver, B.C.
Sab Curtis’s adventures shape and inspire her work, with her landscape paintings reflecting the profound sense of exploration and connection she feels to the natural world. For Curtis, her art practice is a means of being nurtured by nature’s magnificence, allowing her to immerse herself in what she loves most. Through the lens of realism, she brings herself as close as possible to the outdoor experiences she craves, deepening her relationship with the landscapes she paints.
Using acrylics, Curtis creates a rich, dimensional effect by layering intricate details and skillfully accentuating light and shadow, breathing life back into her recreated memories. She is drawn to compositions that not only engage the eye but also provoke thought, with each canvas serving as a journal for the lessons she learns through her adventures. Through her realistic and relatable depictions, her work invites viewers to become absorbed in the environment, encouraging contemplation of the meaningful messages offered by Mother Nature.
Art became the unexpected silver lining for Sab Curtis while recovering from a traumatic brain injury. In 2020, she picked up a brush for the first time in her life as a therapeutic outlet, and she has not stopped painting since. An engineer by profession, Curtis has channeled her problem-solving skills into her creative practice through a process she describes as cognitive “rewiring.” Her neural pathways, once dedicated to analyzing data, have transformed into a dynamic process of mixing hues and weaving intricate brushstrokes, allowing her to express her creativity in ways she never anticipated.
